The holiday shopping event began back in 2010 as a campaign for American Express. This year marks the 15th anniversary of shopping small.
Small Business Saturday is now an important day for local retailers that reminds holiday shoppers to shop small and frequent mom-and-pop stores for Christmas gifts. Both the Patchogue and Bellport local chambers of commerce and stores will be participating this year on Nov. 30.
Patchogue
Patchogue will be kicking off their Small Business Saturday celebration on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce will be handing out a couple hundred giveaway bags with deals and coupons, this year at Underworld Productions on South Ocean Avenue from noon until 3 p.m., or until bags run out. Inside, there will also be free photos with Santa surrounded by a Christmas-decorated set from noon to 3 p.m.
Some participating business offerings include: The Colony Shop with 20 percent off of almost pajamas; AR Workshop with crafts starting at $5 and 20 percent off retail in the boutique; Family Melody with 10 percent of ukuleles; BMW Pharmacy will be offering buy one, get one free on all red light therapy or massage chair single sessions, $5 off purchase over $50, immunity and recovery kits, free eye or face mask with beauty purchases, a buy a mug geta free hot cocoa, flash sale on candles and gift baskets will be available; Amazing Olive will be giving out 10 percent off coupons; and Patch Print Ship will have 25 percent off already made local gifts.
“With the holidays just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to shop small and experience the excitement of the season,” said chamber executive director Silvana Aloisio. “I can’t wait to see the village buzzing with families preparing for special moments together and celebrations.”
The chamber will also be hosting “It’s a Wonderful Life in Patchogue” on Dec. 14 and 15 on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bellport
On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Bellport storefronts will be featuring exclusive deals, offerings, and refreshments. Also, new this year, the Bellport Fire Department will be hosting a craft fair at its headquarters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Participating businesses include (but are not limited to): TOLA. will be offering 25 percent off everything in the shop; Pamela Lerner Home & Design will be offering 10 percent off everything; Bellport Arts & Framing Studio will have a buy-one, get-one-half-off card boxes or wrapping paper deal; Cupcakes Galore will have plenty of holiday treats and buy three, get one free jumbo cupcakes; and The Storefront will be offering personal book orders as well as art and ornaments with gifts from $15 and up.
Along with Small Business Saturday, the Bellport Chamber of Commerce will be running their annual soup contest featuring local restaurants. The voting is up to you! There is a donation fee of $5. And you can sample all of the soups from noon to 2 p.m. on the Four Corners of the village. “Enjoy the soups, [and] shop the quaint village with the best local flare of merchandise available,” said LuAnn Thompson, co-president of the Bellport Chamber.
